Meet Michelle Gilman

Whether it's a fluffy cat, majestic horse or loyal dog, I approach each portrait with the same level of care and attention to detail.
My name is Michelle Gilman. I grew in the United States in a small town in New Hampshire. I began drawing at a young age. It was the one activity that could hold my attention for long periods of time. So, my parents found it useful to always have paper and pencil handy. They recognized my talent early and encouraged me to study art throughout my education and to go to art school.
I attended Massachusetts College of Art in Boston, MA and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts . Over the years, I have enjoyed experimenting with many forms of art including painting, sculpture, film and photography. However, drawing is my first love. I love capturing what I see onto paper.
When I first began drawing animals, it was just to challenge myself, partcularly to draw fur. I have always loved animals, dogs in particular (I’m a bit of a dog fanatic really). Initially, I shied away from drawing fur because I thought it would be too difficult. But, that fear turned out to be my greatest passion. I love the challenge of it. I love the challenge of capturing the personality and essence of an animal onto paper.
As a dog owner myself, I know how important your pet is to you and how they bring joy and love into your life. They are not just pets but family members that deserve something special in their honor. This is why I have set up my own business with the goal to create a beautiful high quality original piece of art that you and your family will cherish.
Currently, I live and work in south Bohemia Czech Republic with my family and and our beloved Briard, Orka. I accept commissions worldwide.
